Fashion Design
The fashion design industry is comprised of businesses that are dedicated to the production of lifestyle accessories and clothing that are within the social and cultural influences of the current time. This industry has a high following, particularly the youth and the fashion-conscious individuals.
The fashion design industry of Australia is relatively young but it has shown great progress since it first began. More and more Australian designers are beginning to make it big in the fashion arena, attracting both local and international patrons.
Fashion design in Australia is reflective of vibrancy, projecting fresh and colourful styles. It reflects the multicultural and complex nature of the Australian tastes in fashion. Likewise, it reflects the environment that Australia is known for - wide expanse of desert landscapes, wide expanse of farm lands and a variety of bushes and plants. Australian designers found inspiration from the Australian environment, incorporating this environment into the designs they create.
Fashion design also has indigenous influences. The textiles used in the clothing are often derived from the textiles used by the indigenous groups. Fashion designs are also derived from indigenous styles. The integration of the indigenous designs in fashion proves the creativity of the Australian fashion designers.
