Hospitals
Welcome to the Hospitals section of Business.com.au, your complete directory for all your hospital needs with the contact details for Australia's hospitals and medical centres. In Australia hospitals are usually funded by the state governments, health insurances, health organisations and charities, including by direct charitable donations.
There are various types of hospitals across Australia with both private and public hospitals available. The services are the same in both types with the main difference being in waiting lists and staffing figures. Patients of hospitals vary in what they require with some simply visiting the hospital for a diagnosis and treatment, known as outpatients, while other people may be are 'admitted' and stay overnight or for several weeks or months, known as inpatients.
However, there are several specific types of hospitals available in Australia with general hospitals, specialised hospitals, clinics and teaching hospitals.
General hospitals are the most common type and are found in most populated areas as they are equipped to deal with all kinds if injuries and diseases and will have a full emergency department to handle any accidents. Additionally, general hospitals will have an emergency medical services centre to dispatch ambulances. Due to its ability to handle most emergencies, the general hospital has a large amount of rooms for inpatients available with both intensive care wards and long term care.
Specialised hospitals will generally be affiliated with a university or research centre and will be anything from rehabilitation hospitals, children's hospitals, trauma centres, or psychiatric hospitals.
A teaching hospital (or university hospital) combines assistance to patients with teaching to medical students and is often linked to a medical school.
Finally, Clinics are not emergency services hospitals and only deal with outpatients. They are usually controlled by a government agency or as a private partnership of physicians.
Our directory will be able to provide you with the contact details of all Australia's medical centres and hospitals that can assist you with your medical needs.
