Stock Brokers
Stock brokers buy and sell shares and other securities through market makers or Agency Only Firms for investors, and they can help you or your business grow wealth. Your stock broker will provide you with comprehensive and personalised services in everything from portfolio management, margin lending, cash management and superannuation.
To make a transaction on a stock exchange it must be made between two members of the exchange. A transaction cannot be made by you. If you would like to trade stock it is done through a stock broker.
You can gain three different types of stock broking service. These are:
- advisory dealings - where the stock broker carries out the client's instructions to buy or sell, leaving the final decision to the investor
- execution-only - meaning that the broker will carry out the client's instructions to buy or sell
- discretionary dealing - where the stockbroker determines the client's investment objectives and makes all dealing decisions on the client's behalf
