Are there certain departure dates for your tours?

Most of our itineraries are customised and can start any day. In case your itinerary includes cruises or festivals there might be limitation. However, our Latin American experts can create your pre and post trip accordingly to match any of these dates.  We also have group tours to cater all the tastes. Contact us for departure dates and more information.

I am only interested in some parts of the tour, is that possible?

Yes, all Chimu Adventures itineraries are fully customisable to match your personal interest and schedule. Our Latin American experts can amened, extend or shorten the itinerary to match your travel style.

I am a single traveller, does that matter?

No, it doesn’t matter whether you travel alone, with a partner or group. Some tours require a single supplement fee. Contact us for more information.

What is included in the tour price?

All tours include transfers from and to the airport, activities stated in our itineraries, accommodation with breakfast, entrance fees where indicated, English speaking guides during tours, domestic airfares when apply, meals as indicated in the itineraries.

What is the standard of accommodation like on the trip?

All our tours are personalized and tailor-made for you personal needs. Generally we divide accommodation options into Budget, Standard, Superior and Deluxe. Though, depending on the destination not all categories may be available as we ensure a certain level of comfort for all options.

Is it safe to book with Chimu Adventures?

Chimu Adventures Pty Ltd (ACN 110 269 380) is a licensed travel agent (NSW 2TA5968) and a member of the Council of Australian Tour Operators (CATO). As a licensed travel agent and registered operator in Australia, Chimu Adventures is a member of the Travel Compensation Fund that provides financial security to customers. I don’t feel confident in booking online, is there a different way of booking?

Yes, Chimu Adventures has offices in Sydney and Queensland. You can call our travel experts who will advice you and guide you through the booking process. You are also welcome to arrange an appointment to talk to our experts.

How do I access my money when in Latin America?

We recommend to a combination of debit card (ATM card) from your bank and cash. Your debit card will allow you to withdraw local currency at airports and most city locations. We suggest contacting your bank in advance to ensure that your card is working at international ATMs. While British Pounds and Australian Dollars are accepted and can be exchanged to local currency, US dollars are the preferred currency as it often can be spent directly (small notes and not creasy)

Am I physically fit enough for the trip?

Fitness requirements vary between trips. Our experts can advise you as to what level of fitness is required with different itineraries or customise your trip to suit your fitness level. Please contact us to discuss your options.

Do the Tour Guides speak English?

All tour guides are carefully selected and speak English as well as the local country language.

Will someone pick me up at the airport?

Yes, our Latin American Travel Experts will organise airport transfers to meet you at all the destinations throughout your trip. Your driver will be holding a sign with your name where you clear baggage collection or immigration. Your driver will speak at least basic English and will know your hotel.

Do I need electricity adapters in Latin America?

Yes, you need an adopter for Latin America. Unfortunately, there is no common outlet for this Region. The mostly used plug is the one found in Central Europe. However, adaptors are sold in almost all destinations. Generally if you have a 220v / 240v, you can plug it into a power source that has 110v / 120v without damaging your device, although some devices may not charge correctly.

"Better than I expected, amazing, interesting. - Cuba Plenty of opportunity to meet locals. Very safe for two older ladies, walked at night without incident. Educated informed guides and very personalised itenary which could be adjusted to clients interests and needs. Travelled everywhere very comfortably. Lots of "things" may not meet international standards but as they say TIC(this is cuba) and it's part of its charm and interest. We had a fantastic time and all went to plan.  "

"Beyond expectations - Ecuador We went to the Bellavista Cloud Forest Lodge at Tandiyapa and the Galapagos and both were amazing. Bellavista had brilliant wildlife guides and hummingbirds in particular in the wild and coming in to bird feeder stations. A bird-lover's wonderland. Galapagos, 7 nights aboard Estrella Del Mar was a great way to see a number of very different islands. Get an upstairs cabin - so worth the extra for the views, the fresh air and the extra size. Take your camera and extra batteries and cards! "

"Antartica There were many hiccups that were out of Chimu's hands (ship broke down, airline strike etc). Chimu personnel were fully contactable and altered flights, itinerary and vessels within hours. We were able to experience Antartica, Brazil and Patagonia and were upgraded twice for our inconvenience. Chimu staff even came to our hotel and took us shopping whilst we waited for flights to open after cancellation because of strikes in Buenos Aires.  "

"Mexican Trip - private travel organsied by Chimu The entire trip went well with no difficulties. We were met at each destination. The guides were excellent and met our requests. Vehicles were comfortable and clean. Food was very good and we had no sickness. Strongly recommend the Las Alcobas Hotel in Mexico City both for quality of service and location [even though at present they are remodelling the streetscape]. The Tulum resort was very good.  "

"Easter Island - Chile The tour we arranged through Chimu was excellent in every respect. From the moment we arrived at the airport, we were well looked after. We had three tours (2 x half and 1 x whole day) which covered the main aspects and sites on the island. We had the same guide throughout (Matu'a) - he was a man of Rapa Nui descent, so we had both an authentic and informative commentary. On the third day we hired a car and revisited some sites and explored more - an ideal combination. The hotel, Taha Tai, was within ten minutes walk of the town and restaurants, so we ate at a different restaurant each night - the locally-caught fish is excellent. Breakfast at the hotel was an ample selection of cold sweet and savoury dishes, plus hot scrambled eggs and sausages. Easter Island has a delightful Polynesian atmosphere. It's a pity it's so far from anywhere - or, perhaps, not! Tourist numbers are increasing, so visit before it gets too crowded!!  "
